It is exactly 12 months today since the launch of the Jan Pentland Foundation.
With this anniversary in mind, I am writing to seek your support for the Foundation. As you know, the Foundation awards a scholarship each year to enable an individual to study financial counselling. Financial counselling was close to Jan’s heart and the scholarship is a fitting way to continue her legacy.
The financial counselling sector desperately needs more qualified counsellors to meet demand. The inaugural winners of the scholarship are already making a difference.
Cheryl Buttigieg, a financial counsellor from Victoria, used her scholarship to complete the Diploma of Community Services (Financial Counselling). Cheryl has been a financial counsellor for a number of years and this experience enabled her to fast track the qualification.
Mwajemi Hussein, a refugee from the Congo, is enrolled in the Diploma now and is being mentored by experienced financial counsellors in the South Australian Financial Counsellors’ Association. Mwajemi, when qualified, will use her qualification to work with the local refugee community.
Click here for more information about Mwajemi and Cheryl as well as photos from the inaugural Jan Pentland Foundation dinner in June.
Your donation will help us grow the corpus in the Foundation and eventually expand the numbers of scholarships available. It is the intention of the trustees for future scholarship to be funded entirely from the interest on funds donated. In this way, your donation will make a difference in perpetuity. All donations are tax deductible.
You can donate to the Foundation in one of two ways: either by cheque or by direct credit. Details are attached.
The winners of the inaugural Jan Pentland Scholarship were announced in June 2010 (click here to see details of the event and photos). The 2011 Scholarship will be awarded at the Jan Pentland Dinner in Sydney in May.
Further details will be provided closer to the event.
Thank you for your support.
Yours sincerely
